back...The nameless ones – identifying the children from the camp on Przemysłowa Street

The historians of the Museum of Polish Children – Victims of Totalitarianism have found photographs of former prisoners of the German concentration camp for Polish children on Przemysłowa Street in Łódź. However, many of the children shown in the photos are unknown. That is why we have started the campaign “The nameless ones – identifying the children from the camp on Przemysłowa Street” – announces dr Ireneusz Piotr Maj, the Head of the Museum.

Thanks to the kindness of the Art Gallery in Mosina, in performance of our cooperation agreement, the Museum of Polish Children – Victims of Totalitarianism has gained access to a collection of personal photographs of the little prisoners of Polen-Jugendverwahrlager Litzmannstadt that were kept in the collections of the Gallery.

– Most of the salvaged photographs – approx. 200 – were taken in January 1945 by one of the girls who was looking for her files in the archives.  The individual remaining photos known today were kept by her friends. Unfortunately, we still do not know the particulars of all the children shown in the photos taken in the camp atelier during the first days of imprisonment “on Przemysłowa Street”, and that is why the Museum would like to appeal for your help with identifying them – explained the Head of the Museum of Polish Children – Victims of Totalitarianism.

As part of the campaign, each Monday, we will publish photographs of former prisoners whose identity we could not determine on the social media of the Museum. The first photos will be published on 26 February 2024.

All those who recognise former prisoners or can provide any information about them are requested to contact us using the contact form on our website.
