Last Friday, 26 June 2026, a meeting was held as part of the “Na własne oczy. Spotkanie ze świadkiem historii” [Through my own eyes. A meeting with a witness to history] series. Our guest was Barbara Mazurkiewicz (nom de guerre “Muszka”) – a Home Army veteran who shared her wartime and post-war memories with the participants.

The meeting was devoted both to Barbara Mazurkiewicz’s underground activity in the Home Army and to the patriotic traditions of her family. The participants had an opportunity to explore the history of her father – a legionnaire and an officer of the Polish Army – and hear about the reality of life under German occupation in Warsaw and Głowno.

Barbara Mazurkiewicz shared stories of her service as a Home Army courier, the conspiratorial tasks she carried out and daily life during the Second World War. Her memories brought to life for the participants the experiences of young Polish people whose youth was spent during the Second World War.

During the event, the post-war fate of our heroine was also discussed, as well as her engagement in the activities aimed at preserving the memory of Home Army soldiers and commemorating the legacy of Marshal Józef Piłsudski.

We would like to thank all the participants for their presence and active involvement in the meeting. We are happy that the “Na własne oczy. Spotkanie ze świadkiem historii” series remains a space for exploring personal testimonies of those whose experiences are an extremely valuable part of our history.
