We would like to invite you to a discussion devoted to the ways in which photographs from armed conflicts are created and interpreted. The debate, titled “Propaganda and reality – the world of war photographs”, will be held on 28 January 2026, from 5.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m., at the temporary premises of the Museum at Piotrkowska 90 in Łódź.
During the meeting, the speakers will examine photography as a historical source. They will consider to what extent wartime images can be treated as an objective record, and when they become a tool of propaganda that influences public opinion and political attitudes.
Our guests include representatives of leading academic and museum institutions:
Ludwika Majewska, PhD (Museum of Independence Traditions in Łódź),
Magdalena Zapolska‑Downar (Institute of National Remembrance, Łódź Branch),
Andrzej Grzegorczyk (Museum of Polish Children – victims of totalitarianism).
The debate will be chaired by Agnieszka Fronczek‑Kwarta, PhD.
Admission: Open to the public
Reflecting on war photography allows us to better understand both the human cost of 20th‑century conflicts and the techniques of visual manipulation that continue to shape contemporary media.
We warmly encourage you to take part in this important conversation.
