The Museum of Polish Children – victims of totalitarianism is honoured to invite you to a meeting with Bohdan Kończak, a survivor of the German camp for Polish children in Przemysłowa Street in Łódź. The event will take place on 27 February 2026 at 6 p.m. at the Museum’s headquarters, ul. Piotrkowska 90 (2nd floor).
Mr Kończak (b. 1935) is one of the last living witnesses of the tragic history of the Przemysłowa camp. He was imprisoned there in September 1943 as an eight-year-old child, together with his seven-year-old brother, Ireneusz, and a group of nearly sixty children from Mosina.
The fate of the Kończak family reflects the tragic experiences of many Polish families during the occupation: Bohdan’s father disappeared following his arrest by German forces, while his mother survived three concentration camps. During his time in the Łódź camp, as prisoner number 1064, Mr Kończak was forced to work in workshops and witnessed the violence inflicted on underage inmates. He regained his freedom in January 1945 in a Łódź hospital, where he was treated for a severe illness.
The discussion, led by Jolanta Sowińska-Gogacz, will explore the multiple dimensions of camp life. Topics will include the living and working conditions for children in the Przemysłowa camp, the psychological impact of forced separation from family and the post-war process of adapting and coping with the trauma of occupation.
This meeting is part of the “Through My Own Eyes” series, which aims to preserve the memory of the youngest victims of totalitarian regimes through direct dialogue with witnesses of history. The initiative plays an important role in the Museum’s educational work, ensuring that the experiences of those who survived World War II as children are not forgotten.
