For the fourth time, the Little Way of the Cross participants walked from the Monument to the Martyrdom of Children, which is shaped like a broken heart, along the site of the former German camp for Polish children in Przemysłowa Street in Łódź. The Little Way of the Cross event was preceded by a Holy Mass celebrated in memory of the camp’s victims. The event was the initiative of Maciej Małecki.
“The idea of the Little Way of the Cross stemmed from a deep feeling and contemplation – a need to reflect on the pain and fate of the children, those tiny, vulnerable victims of the Second World War. It was born during a period of profound reflection on what happened to innocent children in Przemysłowa Street 80 years ago and why. I wanted to understand this in the context of faith in God, the existence of evil and unprovoked suffering. To gain a more complete picture, I spoke with historians from the Museum of Polish Children – victims of totalitarianism. Our collaboration has resulted in an event that serves to nurture the memory of our history and provide a profound experience of the Paschal mystery, reflecting on suffering and death, while also being a religious observance in the form of the Stations of the Cross”, explained the initiator of the Little Way of the Cross event.
The event took place under the patronage of the Museum of Polish Children – victims of totalitarianism, which prepared a guide containing the Stations of the Cross Reflections. The route of the Little Way of the Cross was approximately 3 km long.
