wróć...It has been 80 years. The fate of children at the end of the Second World War and post-war period (1944-1949) – an academic conference.

An academic conference, organised by the Museum of Polish Children – victims of totalitarianism, took place on 20 November 2025, at the Łódź Community Centre, located at ul. Dowborczyków 18, Łódź. The aim of the conference was to foster a discussion on the fates of children and young people during the final stage of humanity’s greatest armed conflict and in the initial post-war years (1944-1949).

The third academic conference that the Museum of Polish Children – victims of totalitarianism has organised was entitled It has been 80 years. The fate of children at the end of the Second World War and post-war period (1944-1949).

The organisers explained that the year 2025 marked the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. The historical and cultural policy of contemporary Europe is still focused on the memory of that experience, and charting a course to avoid large-scale conflict in the years ahead. Meanwhile, the ongoing war on the borders of Poland captures the attention of Europeans and compels a critical reflection on the historical memory of our societies.

Key themes for the conference included:

– the final stage of the war from the perspective of children and adolescents,

– repatriating Polish children,

– aid and support for children and young people returning from camps, forced labour and exile,

– repatriates – “returns” and the settlement of the Regained Territories.

The event was held under the honorary patronage of: The Minister of Culture and National Heritage, the Łódź Voivode, the Marshal of the Łódź Voivodeship, the Mayor of the City of Łódź, the Faculty of Philosophy and History of the University of Łódź and the Polish Historical Society, Łódź Branch.

Media patronage was granted by: TVP3 Łódź and Radio Łódź.
