On May 24, 2026, the Museum of Polish Children – Victims of Totalitarianism hosted a meeting with Irvin Ungar, who is a bibliophile, collector, and distinguished expert on the life and work of Artur Szyk.
The event was organised to mark the launch of the book “Reviving the Artist Who Fought Hitler: My Life with Arthur Szyk”, in which the author discusses his many years of efforts to restore the memory of the artist and promote his work.
The meeting was led by Joanna Podolska – a researcher of the history of Łódź, author of publications, and exhibition curator. Participants had the opportunity to listen to a talk dedicated to the life and work of Artur Szyk – a graphic artist and illuminator born in Łódź, regarded as one of the most outstanding political artists of the 20th century.
The event recalled Arthur Szyk's most important works, including caricatures of Adolf Hitler and the leaders of the Third Reich, illuminations of the Kalisz Statute and the series “Images of the glorious days of the Polish-American brotherhood”.
We would like to thank all the participants for their attendance and the time spent together. The meeting was a unique opportunity to reflect on the role of art in opposing totalitarianism and to learn about the artist's history.
