On December 8, 2022, the seat of the Łódź District Branch of the National Bank of Poland hosted the issuance of a new collector coin with a face value of PLN 10 – “Niemiecki obóz dla polskich dzieci w Łodzi (1942-1945)” [“Nazi German Camp for Polish Children in Łódź(1942-1945)”]. During the meeting, commemorative coins were presented to the Survivors of the Nazi German concentration camp for Polish children in Łódź. The event is part of the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Nazi German camp on Przemysłowa Street.

‘Before the creation of the Museum of Polish Children – victims of totalitarianism, there was no institution that dealt exclusively with the fate of Polish children from the Second World War. We are very pleased that finally such an institution has been established by prof. dr hab. Piotr Gliński, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Culture and National Heritage. Despite the lack of permanent premises, our facility undertakes many activities to restore the memory of the concentration camp for Polish children on Przemysłowa Street and the tragic fate of the prisoners of this place of execution. I would also like to inform you that the Museum will soon purchase, among other things, an authentic camp Verwaltung building in a part of which a permanent exhibition will be created. Thus, we will repay our debt of gratitude to the Survivors at least in a small way,’said dr Ireneusz Piotr Maj, Director of the Museum.

Those gathered at the ceremony were also able to view the latest exhibition titled “Niezwykła polska rodzina. Losy Gertrudy Nowak – dziecka z obozu na Przemysłowej” [“An Extraordinary Polish Family. The fate of Gertruda Nowak – a child from the Camp on Przemysłowa Street”], which was opened on December 1 at the Polish Parliament, the Sejm.

The meeting devoted to the issuance of a new collector coin “Nazi German Concentration Camp for Polish Children in Łódź (1942-1945)” is part of the ongoing 80th anniversary celebrations organised by the Museum of Polish Children – victims of totalitarianism.
