back...Death anniversary of Urszula Kaczmarek

On May 9, 1943, Ula Kaczmarek, who came from Poznań, died. She was the first fatality of the Nazi German concentration camp for Polish children in Łódź on Przemysłowa Street. The girl was severely beaten by the camp crew. The tortured and beaten child died in the infirmary. Ula was 14 years old. Ula’s father, Franciszek Kaczmarek, received a letter with a report that his daughter had died of a heart attack, and that her funeral would be held soon in Łódź. He immediately decided to go there, having first applied to the occupation authorities in Poznań for permission to travel. Unfortunately, Ula’s father arrived in Łódź already after the funeral.
Remembering the death anniversary of Ula Kaczmarek, during a visit to the Saint Adalbert cemetery in Łodź, the director and a delegation of employees of the Museum of Polish Children – victims of totalitarianism lit candles on the only surviving tombstones of children from the camp on Przemysłowa Street, the tombstone of Jurek Rutkowski (aged 9) and the tombstone Zygmunt Olejniczak (aged 12).
